Recycled precious metals - Circular economy and sustainability
At Livva Østerby, we are dedicated to using 100% recycled metals in all our jewellery, whether it's solid gold, sterling silver, or gold-plated pieces. By choosing certified recycled gold and sterling silver, we not only breathe new life into these precious metals but also uphold the principles of the circular economy. Using recycled metals allows us to minimize the negative and often unethical impacts associated with mining, while actively reducing our environmental footprint and promoting a more sustainable future.

Sterling silver as a base for gold-plating
Using sterling silver as a base for our gold-plated jewellery is a practice rooted in the tradition of Danish craftsmanship. This choice is often made because sterling silver, being a precious metal, offers hypoallergenic properties, making it more skin-friendly than other base metals like brass or copper.
Additionally, sterling silver provides a higher-quality finish and greater durability, giving our gold-plated pieces a more solid and valuable foundation, compared to cheaper metals. This approach enhances the overall quality and longevity of our jewellery, especially for frequently worn items, as the sterling silver base is less likely to cause irritation and maintains its quality better over time.
To keep your gold-plated jewellery looking its best, avoid wearing it while washing your hands, showering, or exercising, as water, sweat, and soaps can wear down the plating. Gently clean your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth after each use, and store it in a cool, dry place away from other pieces to prevent scratches.
While gold plating may naturally wear over time, the sterling silver base allows our jewellery to be easily re-gold-plated. We have ensured that it can be easily disassembled, surface cleaned, and re-polished, making it ready for you to have a fresh layer of gold plating applied.
